1915 1915 (Roman Numerals: MCMXV) was the 15th year of the 20th century. 1915 was not a leap year, and the first day of the year was a Friday. In 1915 World War I continued to rage. Italy joined the Entente. British and Commonwealth forces landed at Gallipoli in an attempt to knock Turkey out of the war. Germany introduced poison gas into warfare in an attempt to break the stalemate on the Western Front, and German U-boats tried to cut supplies to Britain, in the process sinking the liner Lusitania and causing outrage in the United States.
